Research Engineer, phD (Animal Production - Livestock Systems - Mixed Crop-Livestock Systems - Agroecology)

Although mixed crop-livestock systems (MCLS) are most prevalent systems in Guadeloupe (80%, Stark et al., 2010) and more generally in the tropical area (Herrero et al., 2010) they are poorly studied due to their great level of complexity. Previous studies at URZ have focused on analytical approaches (to characterize systems components or animal performances, ...) rather than on systemic approaches.

My research program aims to study the determinants of agroecological performance (efficiency and resilience) of MCLS. This program includes:

  1. The characterization of MCLS and crop livestock integration practices in the study area,
  2. the evaluation of the performance of these systems and ultimately,
  3. constructing an ex ante evaluation model of different MCLS scenarios to synthesize our knowledge about MCLS and identify the brakes and levers to increase their performances.

I am responsible of a task in the ANR project (Gaia-Trop funded by the call for projects AGROBIOSPHERE) on the adaptation of agrosystems in small island territories to global changes. I am responsible for the step "agro-ecological design of mixed crop-livestock systems" in the PO-FEDER project "Innovative design of resilient agroecosystems with an agroecological perspective in Guadeloupe, AGROECODIV".
